ICEMAN STREETZ' BIO |
Ice’s roots in Hip-Hop, Urban and Dance music span decades. Being born and raised in NYC, Ice was exposed to Hip-Hop, Urban, Club, and Top 40 music at a very early age. At 12 years old, he became an honorary member of the hip-hop super group, “UTFO”, of which his cousin, Freddy “Dr. Ice” Reeves was a founding member. (UTFO later went on to record “Roxanne, Roxanne”, a smash hit in the early 80’s.) Shortly after, Ice first heard New York City’s popular “Hot 103” radio station (the pre-cursor to today’s “Hot 97”). Ice fell in love with Hot 103’s hybrid format of Dance, Freestyle, & Urban music. It inspired him to begin producing, remixing and spinning tunes. His earliest influences included wide variety of DJs and producers, including DJ Red Alert, Jellybean Benitez, DJ Tony Touch, The Latin Rascals (Tony Moran), and Doctor Dre. As the years progressed, Ice gained popularity as not only a producer and performer, but also as a club and party DJ with influences by DJ Kid Capri, DJ Khaled, and later (on the production front), Timbaland and The Runners. As time progressed, Ice began learning the technical methods of songwriting and musical arrangement. He then went on to study sound engineering at New York’s 5 Towns College for music and later attended Brooklyn College, where he majored in Business Management. Believing he now had all the tools necessary to become a giant in the industry by his own devices, Ice soon relocated to New England, where he founded the independent urban label, Red Zone Records. Being a self-starter, he decided to form his own independent record label rather than wait for a major label deal. Red Zone went on to sell thousands of independently released CDs throughout the New England area. Ice and his associates performed at several showcases, and promoted many local parties to increase awareness of the Red Zone name. In 2006, Iceman’s single “No Love” (which he wrote and produced) gained regular radio airplay at Boston’s WERS (88.9FM), after winning the station’s famous “Local Battle” for an entire week straight. Ice has also been featured in a feature article by the NH-based publication “Hippo Press”, as well as a feature article in the February 2007 issue of the Hip-Hop publication, “One-Ten Magazine”. Ice also appeared in the December 2007 issue of Vibe Magazine as one of the top 51 MySpace Urban artists state to state. Ice is currently a resident DJ at the popular New Hampshire nightclub “The Funky Monkey”, where he has gathered a quickly growing fan base. As a DJ/Producer, he works in various genres, including Hip-Hop, Dance/Club, and Top 40. In addition to continuing his work as a producer and remix
specialist, Ice’s future ambitions also include adding more nightclub
appearances, as well as radio and major label experience to his resume. |
